Cut some slack in your line and just breathe!

September already!  The lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are over so quickly. The kids are back to school, things are settling down, and fall is just around the corner.  More on fall next month…

But for now, some of you may have noticed that I did not send my Monthly Encouragement Memo in August.  Can I just say…August did not turn out as I had anticipated it would? I had planned to lay a little low and take a bit of a break in the action.  Instead I ended up with some major changes in my life, and I simply had to let some things go.  There was unexpected travel, unplanned family matters, and career modifications.  Sometimes–actually, all the time–“life happens”, doesn’t it? We can lose what we perceive to be control and need to make adjustments.  Additionally, perfection is such a misnomer.

When we have unexpected events in our lives we can either roll with it, or drive ourselves crazy trying to gain back the control we thought we had to begin with.  I’m so over getting upset when things don’t go as I had planned!  My peace comes from within, from knowing that even though I don’t know how things will turn out, I know the ONE Who does.  It took some years to get to this place, and many trials endured, to work my faith muscles. But it’s so freeing to be able to cut myself–and others–some slack when there is a ripple, and sometimes a huge splash, in the water of my day…or my week…or my month…

I hope you can do the same.  Cut yourself some slack if you need it.  Life will go on, trust me.  If things are piling up or you are facing unexpected events, evaluate what’s most important, and do what one of my favorite songs says:“Lay down what’s good and find what’s best.  Just breathe.” (From “Breathe”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnjeMwxFuBA Take a listen. You're gonna love it!)  Take a moment to breathe in the miraculous amidst the mayhem…to notice the divine amidst the discontent…to absorb the amazing amidst the anguish.  It’s there if we take the time to just breathe.

Have a bright day!
